Today is World Mental Health Day! I am so pleased to write about the existence and celebration of a day that recognises the importance of mental health world-wide.
This year has been tough for many people around the world. The unprecedented bushfires in many parts of Australia was followed closely by the extraordinary impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have faced fear, isolation, job losses, economic uncertainty and we wonder what the future will bring.
Now more than ever it is important that we look after our mental health and look out for others who might be struggling.
Getting support for mental health issues is much easier than it used to be. As a teenager I experienced mental health challenges and while getting help and support was difficult it was so important. We have come a long way in reducing the stigma associated with mental illness, but there is still some way to go.
That is why days such as World Mental Health Day are so important. So let's recognise the importance of good mental health and reduce the stigma associated with seeking support.
